Initial Consultation:

During the initial consultation, Mike openly shared his struggles with form and performance anxiety. He expressed interest in exploring how NLP, Brain Gym, and EFT Tapping could potentially enhance his performance in the boxing ring.

Techniques Used:

Brain Gym:

To establish rapport and create a supportive environment, I utilized Brain Gym. Additionally, we used Brain Gym techniques to set specific boxing goals for Mike.

Focus Awareness Technique:

To help Mike relax and concentrate, I employed a Focus Awareness Technique. This technique enabled him to enhance his focus on targets and effectively execute the necessary steps.

Timelining:

In the session, we conducted a timelining exercise to identify when Mike's form declined, confidence wavered, and performance anxiety emerged. It was revealed that personal stress began just before he suffered a knockout in the ring.

EFT Tapping:

I introduced Mike to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping, which involves tapping on specific meridian points while verbalizing affirmations to release negative emotions and limiting beliefs. We utilized EFT tapping to address Mike's stress, allowing him to release any emotional obstacles hindering his goals.

Reframing:

To challenge Mike's limiting beliefs about his abilities, we worked together on reframing. For example, he initially believed that winning the fight should have been easy and doubted his own capabilities after being knocked out. I helped him recognize that personal stress can impact boxing performance, and it's normal to have off days.

Future Pacing:

I guided Mike to visualize himself in the future, having achieved his boxing goals. Together, we created a vibrant image of his desired life and the emotions he would experience.

Anchoring:

To reinforce positive feelings, I established an anchor for Mike. This involved recalling a moment when he felt confident and focused during a fight and associating those emotions with a physical gesture, such as making a fist. This anchor could be used to access those positive feelings whenever necessary.

The Power of Suggestion -

I used the power of suggestion to help Mike imagine himself reaching his boxing goals. This technique is used to create a positive mental image of the desired outcome, which in turn helps to build confidence and belief in one's abilities.

The power of suggestion is where the phrase "I put a spell on you" comes from. The word "spell" actually comes from the Old English word "spellian," which means to talk or speak

This highlights the fact that words are incredibly powerful and can have a significant impact on our thoughts, feelings, and actions

Just as a magician can use spells to influence their audience, sports performers and athletes can use the power of suggestion to enhance their performance. By choosing their words carefully and using positive language, they can create a mindset that empowers them to achieve their goals and perform at their best

“Words and magic were in the beginning one and the same thing, and even today words retain much of their magical power.”

― Sigmund Freud, Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis

The Parallels of Anxiety and Excitement: A Perceptual Journey

This exploration and technique delve into the intriguing similarities between anxiety and excitement, revealing that they stem from the same wellspring of energy but manifest differently based on perception.

Also through the evocative metaphor of setting sail on the vast ocean of competition, we discover how altering our perspective can transform anxiety into a thrilling sense of anticipation, opening new doors to embrace life's challenges with a heart filled with both trepidation and fervor.

Metaphors For Confidence And Motivation -

Metaphors are powerful indirect suggestions because they engage the listener's imagination and tap into their subconscious mind, making them more receptive to new ideas or perspective

Visualization:

Collaboratively, we constructed a vivid image of Mike performing at his peak level in the ring. We emphasized the sensations and emotions he would encounter while being in top form. This visualization served as motivation for him to train and compete with heightened confidence and focus.

Results:

Over multiple sessions, Mike's confidence and focus in the ring significantly improved. He reported reduced anxiety and greater control during fights, even under pressure. His trainer also noticed a boost in his performance, attributing it to the mental training he had undergone.

Mike went on to win several fights and continued implementing the techniques we had worked on together to maintain mental focus and confidence. By effectively managing his anxiety and reshaping his limiting beliefs, I aided Mike in performing at his best and attaining his boxing goals.
